Protagonists of this video are Greta Thunberg, famous and young Swedish environmental activist, and George Monbiot, English journalist and activist.  They underlined how natural climate solutions have been ignored up to now, despite they could remove huge amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, contributing to recover the climate crisis.

Invest in sustainable energy solutions should become a priority, allowing to the extraordinary resilience of nature to restore ecosystems and our broken climate.

Tom Mustill said: “We tried to make the film have the tiniest environmental impact possible. We took trains to Sweden to interview Greta, charged our hybrid car at George’s house”.

Greta e George message is simple: “Protect” (tropical forests), “Restore” (the large areas of the planet that have been damaged), “Fund” (stop the funding of things that destroy nature).  Everybody can and should do something, with the only tool we can use: choosing Nature … “Whatever It Takes !”.

“WHATEVER IT TAKES! NATURE, CULTURE EUROPE “: THE MESSAGE OF THE 22nd GRAN PARADISO FILM FESTIVAL https://22.gpff.it/whatever-it-takes-nature-culture-europe-the-message-of-the-22nd-gran-paradiso-film-festival/?lang=en Fri, 09 Aug 2019 15:38:56 +0000 https://22.gpff.it/?p=10841 The 22nd Gran Paradiso Film Festival launched a message to underline its commitments in conservation and sustainability, and to remember that it does not want to be just entertainment, but an instrument to spread lessons learned by the relevant guests who have been part of this edition.

Therefore, during the Award Ceremony of Saturday, July 27, the Artistic Director, Luisa Vuillermoz launched the campaign: “Whatever it takes! Nature, Culture, Europe ”.

This sentence, inspired by Mario Draghi, expressed our intention to contribute to environmental sustainability, to spread culture, to sustain European cohesion, at any condition, so Whatever it takes!

In our daily life we all made simple actions that brought us towards this common perspective and the Festival intends to promote those actions.

Festival team believes in nature, in culture and in European cohesion and invites all of us to join this initiative, sending photos or videos showing: #whateverittakes! Nature Culture Europe.

People believing in this message, could take pictures, writing #whateverittakes! Nature Culture Europe on a paper, on a cup, on the sand, on the snow, in a newspaper, in a book, on the skin or wherever desired.  The idea is to spread this message through people faces that share those values.

Giuliano Amato, Hervé Barmasse, Flavio Caroli, Roberto Cingolani and Carlo Cottarelli already sent their contributions and the Festival audience of the international competition week in Cogne, joined enthusiastically the campaign.

All the information about the initiative are available on the website 22.gpff.it and on the social channels of the Gran Paradiso Film Festival. Pictures and videos could be sent to info@gpff.it and published on the main social networks tagging the Festival and including the hashtag #whateverittakes #naturecultureeurope”.

GRAN PARADISO FILM FESTIVAL AND INTERNATIONAL NATURE NAMUR FESTIVAL: A NEW PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN EUROPEAN FILM FESTIVALS STARTED https://22.gpff.it/gran-paradiso-film-festival-and-international-nature-namur-festival-a-new-partnership-between-european-film-festivals-started/?lang=en Thu, 01 Aug 2019 15:34:32 +0000 https://22.gpff.it/?p=10838 In 2019 a partnership agreement was signed between two major European nature festivals, the Gran Paradiso Film Festival and the International Nature Namur Festival.  Both with the common goal of presenting not a reporting cinema but a cinema focused on the extraordinary beauty of nature to make the public aware about it.

FINN, established in 1995 and now entering in its 25th edition, will take place from 11 to 20 October 2019, and GPFF, which has just concluded the international competition week of it 22nd edition in Cogne and which will continue in the valleys of Gran Paradiso in August, could find many points of contact. This partnership aims to improve the growth of both festivals, significantly increasing their impact on their territories and on the international scene.

Both the events have nature as core theme and they aim to disseminate this message through a series of events including international film competitions, outdoor activities and multidisciplinary conferences in a perspective of local development and exchange. Moreover, the two Festivals belong to two Francophone regions, with a  great potential in tourism development and having extraordinary landscapes and artistic and cultural heritages.

Thus considering, both GPFF and FINN decided to implement targeted actions for their mutual development and for achieving their common mission.  They include communication and promotion activities, through the dissemination of films and the awarding of special prizes to public jury and film directors.

On Monday 22, FINN award was assigned to a member of the public jury.  The prize consists in a four-days stay for two persons in the Belgian city of Namur, including the invitation to the FINN award gala.  On the other side, film director winner of the FINN 25° edition will be awarded with an experience in Cogne, for two persons during the 23° GPFF, at the Eco Wellness Hôtel Notre Maison, to explore the pioneering spirit linked to sustainable mobility of the Alpine Green Experience.

The two Festivals are also engaged in the exchange of good practices, information and knowledge about the new trends and outputs of the naturalistic film sector, the dissemination of research and studies, the entertainment and the arts, as well as to exchange the photo exhibitions that enrich the two Festival programs.

International Nature Namur Festival Coordinator, Christophe Boux, took part in the 22nd Gran Paradiso Film Festival as a member of the technical jury.  About this new partnership he declared: “One of the main features of nature is that it could teach us how to help ourselves. Our collaboration is productive and as declared by the Belgian: union is strength ”.

Gran Paradiso Film Festival Artistic Director, Luisa Vuillermoz, said: “We are very proud of this partnership. As George Bernard Shaw says: If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas”.

Festival program is available at:  22.gpff.it and www.festivalnaturenamur.be

“AIGLE ET GYPAÈTE, LES MAÎTRES DU CIEL” BY ANNE AND ERIK LAPIED WON THE 22nd GRAN PARADISO FILM FESTIVAL. https://22.gpff.it/aigle-et-gypaete-les-maitres-du-ciel-by-anne-and-erik-lapied-won-the-22nd-gran-paradiso-film-festival/?lang=en Mon, 29 Jul 2019 15:43:33 +0000 https://22.gpff.it/?p=10843

The 22nd Gran Paradiso Film Festival International Competition awarded Anne and Erik Lapied’s “Aigle et Gypaète, les Maître du Ciel” with the Stambecco d’Oro Trophy, the main prize of the Festival having a worth of 5,000 euros.   French directors film also received by the technical Jury the prize Ente Progetto Natura  awarded by CAI (1,500 euros), with the following motivation: “Anne and Erik Lapied do not tell stories: they are directors, observers of the events that occurred in front of their cameras.  Those incredible animals, co-protagonists of the film belong to 18 different species. Anne’s voice is warm and effective. ”

Anna Lapied said about this double winning: “I’m really excited for these two awards! I enjoy this happiness and I thank the audience of the festival and the technical jury for the awards given to our small production dedicated to high mountain nature film. ”

Stambecco d’Oro Junior Trophy, awarded by the children jury, was assigned to: “Age of the big cats – The origin” of Martin Dohrn and “Blue planet II – The ocean” of Jonathan Smith, James Honeyborn, Mark Brownlow

CortoNatura prize (€ 1,000) was given to “A strange process”of the Swiss director Marcel Barelli.

Special mentions of the technical jury were assigned to: “In the realm of the spider – tailed viper” by Fathollah Amiri (WWF prize) because: “In the film it is hard for the researchers to find who saw this viper in the wild. The farmer Mahmoud became first a guide and then a skilled and lucky cameraman. The story is the chronicle of his staying nearby the rock that hides and repairs the reptile. The great success of the research lies in documenting the act of predation. The animal is unknown to most with its morphology and the consequent curious and fascinating hunting technique. A reptile that “preys” like a fly fisherman. A film that even with limited resources is able to introduce us to an impressive nature”; Lipu Prize was given to Jan Haft’s “Magic island – Life on the largest volcanic island in the world” because “In Magical Island everything is moving: clouds, landscapes, earth shaking and boiling, streams that flow towards the sea, the sun at midnight over the sea. There are suggestive images, such as “the icebergs … in periods of minimal water flow accumulate, waiting for the higher water to break the blocks and an army of ice sculptures in the black beach, so called, “Diamond Beach”. In Iceland everything seems desert and mineral. ”

Gran Paradiso National Park awarded by Valle d’Aosta Community Foundation (euro1.500) was awarded to “Queen without land” by Asgeir Helgestad: “A story of how you can get in touch with an animal as dangerous as the polar bear, only by looking at it through powerful lenses, because one could feel its lack when it disappears in that all-white world that is always the same. The core theme of the film is planet degradation that shows us dramatically in that very cold places: three walruses resting on a small ice raft are the expression of this environmental disaster. A film that also inspires a sense of regret and desperation: perhaps pretty soon another ice raft, even a small one, would not be there anymore. ”

Two special mentions awarded by the Gran Paradiso National Park were assigned to “My Congo” by Doug Hope and to the short film “L’envol” by Aurelien Prudor.

An intense week that registered an absolute record of attendances, with +25% of people compared to the last edition. The closing ceremony started with the climber Hervé Barmasse who shared with the public an important moment of mountain culture.

The Festival will continue in August in the other municipalities of the Gran Paradiso: first two events will be in Rhemes Nôtre Dame (Aug. 2) and Aymavilles (Aug. 3). All scheduled events are free of costs.  Program: 22.gpff.it. Reservations are recommended :info@grand-paradis.it.
